Welcome and Call to Worship

Leader: As we gather to worship today, turn to a church family next to you and say, “Welcome! I am glad you are here!”
People: Welcome! I am glad you are here!
Leader: Now, turn to another church family and say, “You are loved by God and by me!”
People: You are loved by God and by me!
Leader: Beloved children of God, how can we love each other today?
People: By meeting and listening and caring for one another face-to-face.
Leader: Beloved children of God, how can we love God today?
People: By practicing our love for one another and God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Leader: Let us worship God together today!
People: We come to worship God by living our love for God and neighbor face-to-face. Amen.

Scripture Readings — 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NRSV)

4 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

The Word of the Lord:
Thanks be to God.

Hymn — #445 “Happy the Home When God Is There”

1. Happy the home when God is there,
and love fills every breast;
when one their wish, and one their prayer,
and one their heavenly rest.

2. Happy the home where Jesus’ name
is sweet to every ear;
where children early speak his fame,
and parents hold him dear.

3. Happy the home where prayer is heard,
and praise is wont to rise;
where parents love the sacred Word
and all its wisdom prize.

4. Lord, let us in our homes agree
this blessed peace to gain;
unite our hearts in love to thee,
and love to all will reign.

Joys and Concerns, Pastoral Prayer, Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and glory forever. Amen.

For those who are called and able, gifts and tithes can still be made through online giving, by mailing them in, and by dropping them off to the office through the secure mail slot to the left of the double door entry to the church hallway.

Offertory Prayer

God of unimaginable love, you have given us so much and asked so little. In the words of Jesus, we have been commanded to love you with our whole being, love our neighbors, and love ourselves. For that simple price, you have given us everything and promised to love us and not desert us. It is a covenant more generous than anyone could imagine, and yet how often we fail to keep the bargain. We love you when it is convenient and will not embarrass us before others. We pick and choose which neighbors we love. as we pick and choose when we will love ourselves. As we dedicate our gifts this morning to bringing acts of love, may we also resolve to better keep our side of your covenant of love. In Christ, we pray. Amen.

Closing Hymn — #557 “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” (v. 1, 4)

1. Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.

4. When we asunder part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
