Welcome and Opening Prayer

Opening Prayer
Give thanks to the LORD!  Praise His name!  Tell the whole world what He has done—His mighty acts on our behalf.  Sing to the LORD, for He has done wonderful things for us!
Raise your hearts and voices!  shout and sing your praise!  For great is the Holy One who lives among us!  Who among you is seeking the wisdom of God?  Wisdom generously to all who ask.  Come near, people of God!
Let us worship in wisdom and truth.

Opening Hymn — #2204 Light of the World

1. You are the Light of the world O Lord
And You make Your servants shine
So how can there be any darkness in me
If You are the Light of the world
You are the Light of the world

2. You are the Bread of life O Lord
Broken to set us free
So how can there be any hunger in me
If You are the Bread of life
You are the Bread of life

3. You’ve overcome the world O Lord
And given us victory
So why should I fear when trouble is near
If You’ve overcome the world
You’ve overcome the world

Scripture Reading — 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28 (NRSV)

12   But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you; 13 esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the faint hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. 15 See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise the words of prophets, 21 but test everything; hold fast to what is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil.

23   May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this.

25   Beloved, pray for us.

26   Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss. 27 I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all of them.

28   The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Joys and Concerns, Pastoral Prayer

Pastoral Prayer
God of the living, with all your creatures great and small we sing your bounty and your goodness, for in the harvest of land and ocean, in the cycles of the seasons, and the wonders of each creature, you reveal your generosity.  Teach us the gratitude that dispels envy, that we may honor each gift as you cherish your creation, and praise you in all times and places.  That this day may be holy, good and joyful:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.
That we may offer to you our worship and praise along with the work of our hands, minds and hearts:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.
That we may strive for the well-being of all creation:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.
That in the pleasures and pains of life, we may know the love of Christ and be thankful:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.
That we may be bound together by your Holy Spirit, in communion with all your holy ones, entrusting one another and all our life to Christ:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.
That we may always and everywhere give thanks to you, O God, for all of our blessings and giftedness:
we pray in gratitude to you, O Lord.

Offering Our Gifts to the Lord
For those who are called and able, gifts and tithes can still be made through online giving, by mailing them in, and by dropping them off to the office through the secure mail slot to the left of the double door entry to the church hallway.

Offertory Prayer

Almighty giver of all good gifts: Grow in us the wisdom to know that all we have to give is in our hands only because you have given to us first. Remind us that you have called us in Christ to be gentle, patient, and loving—and at one with your children everywhere. May the gifts we have been given and the gifts we share reflect the debt of our gratitude for your many blessings. We pray this in the holy name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Closing Song — #585 This Little Light of Mine

1. This little light of mine
I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine
I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine let it shine let it shine

2. Hide it under a bushel no
I’m gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel no
I’m gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel no
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine let it shine let it shine

3. Don’t let Satan blow it out
I’m gonna let it shine
Don’t let Satan blow it out
I’m gonna let it shine
Don’t let Satan blow it out
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine let it shine let it shine

Benediction

Go now, for you are chosen and sent in the Spirit. Pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. Keep what is good, avoid every kind of evil. To all in need bear witness that the time has come when the Sovereign Lord will save his people.
And may God who gives peace make you holy in every way. May Christ Jesus clothe you with salvation and victory. And may the Holy Spirit speak through you with the good news of hope. We go in peace to love and serve the Lord, in the name of Christ. Amen.
