Dear Family and Friends of First UMC of Torrance,
In the embrace of autumn’s vibrant hues and the spirit of Thanksgiving, we confront a world filled with disquiet—wars, conflicts, inflation, and political chaos. In Philippians 4:6, the Apostle Paul provides a poignant reminder of where our hearts ought to reside amidst the turbulence: ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.’ This verse beckons us to discover tranquility in the act of laying our requests, dreams, and fears before our benevolent Creator. In this November journey, let’s focus on three vital aspects:
Thanks-giving: A Lifestyle of Gratitude
Beyond being a mere notation on the calendar, November offers us the chance to nurture a lifestyle steeped in gratitude. While we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving celebrations, let’s move beyond the feast to reflect on the abundant provision bestowed upon us by God. Even in the midst of trials, reasons for thankfulness can be uncovered.
Prayer: The Path to Peace
In the midst of the incessant noise bombarding us daily, it is easy to succumb to anxiety and stress. However, the wisdom in Philippians propels us to recognize that prayer is the conduit to transcend our worries. This month, let’s embrace intentional moments of prayer to transcend worries and find peace that surpasses understanding.
Community Thanks-giving
Our church community serves as a bastion of strength and support. Expressing gratitude for one another, acknowledging the unique gifts and talents each member brings to our spiritual family, is a worthy endeavor.
As we navigate the final stretch of the year, let’s consistently echo the sentiments of Philippians 4:6. May our prayers be permeated with thanksgiving, and may our hearts be saturated with the peace that arises from trusting in the benevolence of our God. Wishing you a profoundly blessed Thanksgiving season!
In Christ’s love, Pastor Jacob
