Welcome and Call to Worship

Leader: Protect us, O God, for in you we take refuge;
People: Let us say to God, “You are our Lord; we have no good apart from you.”
Leader: Today, we come to worship God in truth and turn away from worshiping the idols all around us.

People: God delights in our sincere worship, but sorrow visits those who give their worship to idols.
Leader: We bless the Lord who gives counsel, who instructs our hearts in the secret of the night.

People: We keep the Lord always before us so that we shall not be moved from God’s ways.
Leader: Our hearts are glad, our souls rejoice, and our bodies rest secure,
People: Because God keeps us from destruction in this life and the next.
Leader: God shows us the path of life,
People: And in God’s presence is the fullness of joy forevermore.
Leader: And so, we say to God,
People: “You are our Lord; we have no good apart from you.” Amen.

The Children’s time and Pastoral Prayer had technical issues.

For those who are called and able, gifts and tithes can still be made through online giving, by mailing them in, and by dropping them off to the office through the secure mail slot to the left of the double door entry to the church hallway.

Offertory Prayer

Holy and loving God, you treat us not like the stern disciplinarian but like the forgiving parent who runs to embrace us when we’ve rebelled or disappointed. Your mercy gives us the opportunities to try again, to return into your grace, to pick ourselves up and brush ourselves off. You forget how many strikes we have against us but invite us back into the inheritance you desire for us. May our offering this day reflect our gratitude. In Christ, we pray. Amen.

(1 Peter 1:3-9)

Scripture Reading — Galatians 6:1-10 (NRSV)

1 My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if those who are nothing think they are something, they deceive themselves. 4 All must test their own work; then that work, rather than their neighbor’s work, will become a cause for pride. 5 For all must carry their own loads.

6 Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher.

7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. 8 If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9 So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up. 10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.

Response
The Word of the Lord:
Thanks be to God.

Closing Hymn — #419 “I Am Thine, O Lord” (v. 1, 2, 4)

1. I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice,
and it told thy love to me;
but I long to rise in the arms of faith
and be closer drawn to thee.

Refrain
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord,
by the power of grace divine;
let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
and my will be lost in thine.

Refrain

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
till I cross the narrow sea;
there are heights of joy that I may not reach
till I rest in peace with thee.
