Greetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Just yesterday I took all the pictures and art off the walls of my office. I had used damage free means to hang them and they had started to fall off the wall, so I took them down before the rest fell to the floor. Now I sit looking at blank green walls, wonder what I will do different this time when I hang them. I can put them in the exact same places, or I can try something new and gain a new perspective in my office and in my work. I literally have a blank canvas to start fresh.
I am taking this as an opportunity to assess where I am finding that old habits and ways are causing me to fall off the wall, or away from where I desire to be in my calling and life. I see Easter as my opportunity to make my New Year’s resolutions of my faith life, as a new year of life begins with Christ’s resurrection.
As I admit that I am not perfect, I know that there are always ways that I can improve my spiritual life and make adjustments to grow closer to God. This is not just in my spiritual disciplines through worship and devotion, but also in my life as a whole. I can take better care of myself through daily exercise and better eating habits. I can work to strengthen my relationships and support system. And I can work on my life-long learning outside of work-related learning. How does this help my spiritual life? Each of these areas helps me to be healthy and whole and to give God the chance to work through me. Health, happiness and well-being all play an integral part in our faith life and our relationship with God.
What do you need to do to be healthier in your life and to strengthen your walk with Christ? What goals do you want to set for this coming year to get you closer to where you would like to be in life?
What is one practical step that you can take this week to reach that goal?
I am beginning work with a clergy coach that is going to help me set goals and to achieve those goals, knowing that support and accountability will be a key to sustained success. To pay that help forward, I would love to be your prayer partner in this venture. I invite you to share with me your goals and dreams and I in turn will promise to pray for you, support you and coach you as you desire to make this the best year possible.
May God bless the year ahead and be with you each step of the way.
