Welcome and Opening Prayer

Opening Prayer
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

I am married, and single
and in a covenant relationship.
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

I was married, and in a holy union,
and never married, and married twice,
and widowed.
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

I am older and younger,
and in between,
facing my first serious relationship,
knowing the joy of love, enduring betrayal,
tasting the grief of a dying partner.
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

I am an only child, and have ten siblings
and have raised two children and no children.
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

I am part of a family, the human family
the family of faith, my family of origin
the family of my choosing.
We are the people of God. Together we are family.

Let us worship God together.

Opening Hymn 158 — Come Christians Join to Sing

1. Come, Christians, join to sing:
Alleluia! Amen!
loud praise to Christ our King:
Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice,
before his throne rejoice;
praise is his gracious choice.
Alleluia! Amen!

2. Come, lift your hearts on high:
Alleluia! Amen!
Let praises fill the sky:
Alleluia! Amen!
He is our guide and friend;
to us he’ll condescend;
his love shall never end:
Alleluia! Amen!

3. Praise yet the Lord again:
Alleluia! Amen!
Life shall not end the strain:
Alleluia! Amen!
On heaven’s blissful shore
his goodness we’ll adore,
singing forevermore:
Alleluia! Amen!

Joys and Concerns — Pastoral Prayer

Pastoral Prayer
Seeking peace in a broken world,
but also knowing God’s peace through God’s presence,
we pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Seeking peace in suffering, illness, and pain,
but also feeling God’s peace through healing, prayer, and those who help,
we pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Seeking peace through our distress, depression, isolation, and fear,
but also feeling God’s peace through the words of loved ones
and the hope we see in the world,
we pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Seeking peace through the pain of worshipping separately,
longing for our holy community to be gathering,
but also feeling peace through God’s presence with each of us
as we worship together distantly,
we pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Help, save, comfort, and defend us, loving Lord.
We need you now, as we have needed you every day.
We cannot live without you.
Amen.

Offering Our Gifts to the Lord
For those who are called and able, gifts and tithes can still be made through online giving, by mailing them in, and by dropping them off to the office through the secure mail slot to the left of the double door entry to the church hallway.

Offertory Prayer

Gracious Lord, we believe in the amazing gift of your son. We share this offering with the unceasing prayer that your work in this world will spring up and break forth in all corners of this global community. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Amen.

Scripture Reading – 1 Peter 1:3-7 (NRSV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, 7 so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
