Dear Friends,
The Rummage Sale planning committee met recently to discuss plans for the upcoming event on Saturday, October 12. We are all encouraged to set aside our items, save them, and take them to the church social hall between 9:00am and 3:00pm, October 7 through October 10. For deliveries after 5:00pm, contact 310-328-8132 for an appointment. As you can imagine, it will take a lot of organization to sort, arrange by category, and price each item.
When we held a rummage sale four years ago, we raised around $6,000, which went to support our general budget. We hope to surpass that amount this year. Our 2013 budget included income from fundraisers to supplement our giving. However, at our September Church Council meeting, it was reported that we have a deficit of around $23,000! Hopefully, the rummage sale can make great inroads into reducing this deficit. In addition, perhaps some of us may have been away during the summer, and we need to catch up on our giving.
As I recall, four years ago the event generated quite a bit of interest from the community. Community folks came to shop, but many donated and even lent a helping hand. This event is a way to invite the community in and interact with them.
The committee is providing the following guidelines for donations:
Please donate only resalable items: All electrical or electronic items must be in good working condition. We will not accept large appliances (refrigerators, washers, freezers, etc.), plumbing fixtures (toilets, sinks, etc.), mattresses, ceiling fixtures (fans, lights, track lights, etc.), carpeting, outdoor equipment (swing sets, sand boxes, etc.), baby furniture (cribs, strollers, etc.), building materials (partitions, room dividers, large power tools, etc.), firearms or ammunition, or auto parts.
Please plan to support the rummage sale fundraiser, and encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to do so as well.
