Dear Family and Friends of First UMC of Torrance,
As summer winds down and the air begins to hint at fall, September brings us into a season of renewal, gathering, and mission together.
On Sunday, September 14th, we celebrate Welcome Back Sunday! After a summer of travel, rest, and sabbath moments, we look forward to coming together again as one body in worship, fellowship, and community. It will be a joyful Sunday of reconnecting with familiar faces, welcoming new ones, and giving thanks for all the ways God binds us together. I encourage you to bring your family, friends, and neighbors. it’s a wonderful opportunity to share the warmth of our church with others.
Throughout the month of September, we are also continuing our Shoe Drive. This mission invites us to collect gently used or clean shoes of all sizes. The shoes not only extend compassion to others but also help raise funds for some much-needed fixes to our church building. Every pair of shoes carries a story, and by giving them forward, we become part of God’s story of generosity while strengthening our own church home.
Finally, September marks the start of a new school year for our children and youth. As they step into classrooms, carry their backpacks, and meet new teachers and friends, let us surround them with our prayers, encouragement, and support. May God grant them wisdom, courage, and joy in their learning, and may we as a church continue to walk beside them as they grow in faith and life.
Friends, this month is a reminder of who we are as the people of God: a welcoming, giving, and nurturing community. May we step into this season with grateful hearts and hopeful spirits.
With joy in Christ,
Pastor Jacob
