Every Act of Love

Dear Family and Friends of First UMC of Torrance,

We are living in a time when it is not easy to feel steady. The world around us continues to carry the weight of war, conflict, and the many after-effects that ripple through communities and across nations. We hear of lives lost, families displaced, and futures uncertain. Even from a distance, these realities can weigh heavily on our hearts.

And closer to home, many among us are also walking through difficult seasons with health challenges, grief, uncertainty, and quiet struggles that are not always visible.

In times like these, it is natural to ask: What can we do? What difference can we really make?
Yet, as people of God, we are reminded that our calling does not pause in difficult times.

In fact, it becomes even more meaningful.
We are called to continue.
To continue loving.
To continue serving.
To continue being the Church.

Because mission and ministry are not things we do only when life feels stable. They are the very expression of who we are, especially when the world feels unsteady.

“What can we do?
What difference can we really make?”

Throughout Scripture, we see that God’s people were often called to live faithfully in uncertain and even painful times. And still, they were invited to trust, to act, and to embody hope.

And that is what I see in you.
I see it in the quiet acts of care, like phone calls, prayers, meals, and presence.
I see it in those who show up to serve, even when they themselves are tired.
I see it in the ways this church continues to reach out through worship, outreach, fellowship, and compassion.

These may seem like small things in a world filled with large problems. But in God’s hands, they are never small.

Every act of love is a witness.
Every act of service is a testimony.
Every act of faithfulness is a sign that God’s work is still alive among us.

We may not be able to stop wars or solve every crisis. But we can be a community that reflects a different way, a way shaped by Christ’s love, grace, and peace.
And sometimes, that is exactly where God’s transformation begins.
So in this season, I invite us not to lose heart.
Let us continue the mission
God has entrusted to us.
Let us continue to be present for one another.
Let us continue to serve, not because everything is easy, but because God is faithful.

And let us remember: even in a troubled world, the light of Christ still shines, and no darkness can overcome it.

Thank you for being a church that continues to love, to serve, and to hope.

With gratitude and prayer,
Pastor Jacob
