Dear Family and Friends of First UMC Torrance,
As we approach the year’s end, I find myself filled with a deep sense of gratitude. Reflecting on the journey we’ve shared this year-the worship services, the fellowship gatherings, the moments of laughter and shared burden—I’m reminded of God’s constant presence and faithfulness to us. Each one of you has been a blessing, adding to the richness of our community. Thank you for the unique ways you’ve contributed to our church family, for your prayers, your service, and your commitment to one another and our shared mission. Together, we’ve grown and witnessed God’s work among us.
December ushers us into the Advent season, a time when we prepare our hearts to celebrate one of the greatest gifts given to humanity: the gift of Emmanuel, “God with us.” In Advent, we remember that God didn’t remain distant but stepped into the world, humbly and vulnerably, to be with us and to show us the depth of His love. Jesus’ birth in that simple stable marks the profound reality of a God who chooses closeness, entering our lives not just in times of celebration but also in our struggles, our worries, and our hopes.
As we light each Advent candle, let us be reminded that this light is for the world. It shines into our personal lives, yes, but it also shines through us as a church family, out into our wider community. We are called to carry this message of hope, peace, joy, and love, reflecting the heart of Jesus to a world in need.
May this season also be one where we pause to give thanks for God’s blessings, looking back with gratitude and looking forward with hope. Just as the Wise Men followed the star, let us continue to seek and follow the light of Christ in the coming year, confident in His faithfulness. May Emmanuel be the guiding presence in your homes and hearts this Christmas. May you feel peace, love, and the enduring joy of God.
With abundant gratitude and love,
Pastor Jacob.
