Welcome and Opening Prayer

Opening Prayer
God forbid that I should boast of anything
but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In him is salvation, life, and resurrection from the dead;
by him we are redeemed and set free.
May God be gracious to us and bless us,
and make his face shine upon us.

Opening Hymn — #552 Here O Lord Thy Servants Gather

1. Here O Lord Your servants gather
Hand we link with hand
Looking toward our Savior’s cross
Joined in love we stand
As we seek the realm of God
We unite to pray
Jesus Savior guide our steps
For You are the way

2. Many are the tongues we speak
Scattered are the lands
Yet our hearts are one in God
One in love’s demands
E’en in darkness hope appears
Calling age and youth
Jesus teacher dwell with us
For You are the truth

3. Nature’s secrets open wide
Changes never cease
Where oh where can weary souls
Find the source of peace
Unto all those sore distressed
Torn by endless strife
Jesus healer bring Your balm
For You are the life

4. Grant O God an age renewed
Filled with deathless love
Help us as we work and pray
Send us from above
Truth and courage faith and power
Needed in our strife
Jesus Master be our way
Be our truth our life

Scripture Reading – 1 Peter 4:8-11 (NRSV)

8 Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 11 Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

Joys and Concerns — Pastoral Prayer

Pastoral Prayer

Lord our God,
we Your people come to You this day
fully aware that we need your presence and your help in our lives,
yet aware as well that we often fail to stop and to turn to you for that help.
We get caught up in the troubles and the turmoils of daily living—
we become busy with the goals that we have set for ourselves
and those that come to us from our work and our families and our friends.
We strive to be loving,
we seek joy and peace,
we desire to be gentle and patient and kind,
to show goodness, and to have self-control—
and yet these things all too often elude us.
Help us, Lord, to root ourselves more deeply in you;
to seek your will for our lives;
to stop and to listen for your voice when we are troubled;
to fully rely on you  when we strive to do what is right;
to remember you and trust in you when we are assaulted;
to meditate on your goodness and your gracious will when we begin each day—
so that like trees by a stream which send down their roots to the water,
we may produce by your power the fruit of your Spirit.
Lord, hear our prayer, amen.

Offering Our Gifts to the Lord
For those who are called and able, gifts and tithes can still be made through online giving, by mailing them in, and by dropping them off to the office through the secure mail slot to the left of the double door entry to the church hallway.

Offertory Prayer

Creating and eternal God,
whose grace is sufficient for us
and whose power is made perfect in weakness,
in our weakness and insufficiency,
we offer our lives
and the gifts of our living
for the work of your mustard seed kingdom;
in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Closing Hymn — #566 Blest Be the Dear Uniting Love

1. Blest be the dear uniting love
that will not let us part;
our bodies may far off remove,
we still are one in heart.

2. Joined in one spirit to our Head,
where he appoints we go,
and still in Jesus’ footsteps tread,
and do his work below.

5. Partakers of the Savior’s grace,
the same in mind and heart,
nor joy, nor grief, nor time, nor place,
nor life, nor death can part.

Benediction

May you live a life centered in the Holy Spirit,
a life that bears rich fruit –
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
generosity, faithfulness, tolerance and self-control –
all the good things that come from following the Spirit,
for living this way will bring much glory and praise to God. Amen.
