Blessing our “stuff”

Blessing our “stuff”

Greetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

In the wake of a new year, I have had several people ask me if I perform vehicle blessings and my answer is yes.

Vehicles, homes, and pets are all worthy of our thanksgiving to God as well as a blessing for God’s protection and presence. Is not everything we have a gift from God? Is not everything we have able to be used in such a way to give glory to God? Then all that we have is worthy to have hands laid upon it for the Lord to be present in it.

Have you looked around and acknowledged the ways that God has blessed you and given thanks for it? Have you lifted your hands and hearts to the Lord to give thanks and to seek His blessing on that which you value and are honored to care for? Have you considered how the “stuff” that you have can be used for the glory of God?

A vehicle that has a manna bag passed through its window to a person in need has glorified God. A car that has given someone a ride or carried donations to a charity is being used for God’s glory. A home that hosts a Bible study or prayer time is used for God’s glory. A pet that helps encourage conversation with a stranger can be a vessel of God’s glory. To be a good steward means changing our mindset to see how all that we have is God’s and can be used by God for His mission of grace and love in this world.

As we work to draw closer to God through this Lenten season, and as we approach the empty tomb of Easter morning, may we see how we are each carriers of God’s love and mercy in a world that needs more resurrection stories of new life because of the kindness of God’s faithful. You are a blessing of God. Thank you for all that you do!

Blessings, Pastor Stacy
