Dear Friends,
We are getting closer. At last reporting, Marlou and I were waiting for the “good conduct clearance” documents from Oman and Germany. A week ago, we received the documents from Oman, and two days ago the German Embassy in Makati, Philippines informed Marlou that the courier package had arrived. So now we submit those documents to the U.S. Embassy in Manila and wait for their final approval and issuance of the visa. It’s been quite a time filling out forms, paying fees, sending emails, making phone calls, and watching and waiting for the whole sequencing to unfold.
As we are in the midst of Holy Week, God must have been envisioning what would happen and when. It must have been quite a sophisticated sequencing for God’s plan of salvation to come together – the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the arranging of the colt, the throngs of people with branches. Behind the scenes, the authorities plotting and scheming. Then later in the week, the washing of feet and the Lord’s supper in the upper room, the prayer in the Garden, the betrayal and handing over, the arrest, the multiple trials, the public decision of Barabbas, the carrying of the cross by Simon of Cyrene, the crucifixion, Peter’s denial, the burial, and finally the resurrection.
There were a lot of details and events that led up to that glorious Sunday. Somehow, God incorporated all those prophetic predictions and pre-requisites and knit them together to bring to fruition the salvation story. Throughout the unfolding we experience every emotion possible with the high and lows, and everything in between: from feelings of triumph and hope on Palm Sunday; to disappointment, betrayal, fear, despair, grief, abandonment, isolation, extreme pain and anguish. Finally, on Easter we are brought to the ultimate sensations of peace, joy, victory, and fulfillment.
We are getting close to the resurrection, but first we have to patiently make our way through Holy Week and somehow survive our emotional roller coaster and not lose faith. May we all experience the fullness of this week and engage in our prayer vigil opportunities, and then on Easter to truly celebrate that Christ is risen!
