Sanctuary Renovation Update

August 3rd, 2010 · Construction, Pastor Bob

Dear Friends,

As our sanctuary renovation project nears completion, we want to give you a progress report of how things have unfolded.

All of the masonry, rough electrical and plumbing, drywall, steelwork, and carpentry have been completed. The cabinetry and mill work are nearing completion and portions have already been installed. The painting of the sanctuary is also nearing completion – the external painting of the new gate and dumpster enclosure is also now complete. The floor has been prepared and the new tile is currently being laid. The new organ pipe chambers are complete and the crossover wind line between chambers has been put in place. The support shelves for the external organ pipes are complete.

The refinishing of the pews is nearing completion and the fabrication of all the associated furnishings is well underway. The majority of the light fixtures have been delivered and installation of some of the fixtures has begun. The rough-in wiring for the new audio-visual system is in place. The reinstallation of the heating and air conditioning units has been started (they were removed to allow construction of the new pipe chambers). The remodeled restroom is also nearing completion — needing only paint and a few small fixtures.

In the next few weeks, we will finish the flooring and painting followed by the installation of the remaining light fixtures and the audio-visual equipment along with their associated controls. We will install the remaining cabinetry and mill work and install the etched glass panels. The carpet for the entry area (narthex), the stairs, and the balcony area will also be installed. After a period of testing for each system, we will then have the city and the fire department conduct their final inspections and, hopefully, receive the occupancy permit. We will then reinstall the pews and all the furnishings and begin preparing the sanctuary for worship.

As a reminder to all, the new organ build and installation will continue for some time, and we hope that it will be done by around mid-2011.

Thank you for your patience, your ongoing support, and your financial giving. We haven’t set a target date with regard to an open house to the community and an opening celebration Sunday. More details will be forthcoming as we approach the day when we will be worshiping in our Sanctuary!
