Dear Friends,
On Monday, August 23, we received word that our sanctuary renovation project has passed all inspections! It is now time to celebrate!
After worshiping in the social hall from December through the end of August, we are just about ready to move back to the sanctuary! As I write this article, our general contractor, West Cal, is wrapping up things with finishing touches and tying up some minor loose ends, but those should be finished by the time you receive this article.
We do want to inform you, though, that the organ construction remains in progress. For the time being, our old organ will be reconnected and operational for the next half a year at least.
But, getting to the celebration, plans have been set to dedicate the sanctuary on Sunday, September 26, at 9:30am. Just for that one Sunday we won’t have an 8: 15 service, but want to invite everyone to join as one congregation at 9:30am. Following the dedication service, lunch will be provided. (A generous donor has already indicated that the cost of lunch is covered, so it’s not an additional expense to the church budget.) Then, the festivities will continue with an open house to the community until 3pm.
We hope that you can make a special effort to be there as we celebrate this great accomplishment. After talking about this for ten years, doing numerous studies, getting input, and jumping through a seemingly endless string of hoops, we are on the brink of crossing over the threshold. So, on Sunday, September 26, we hope to share with you all the features that have been installed, the great flexibility that our church now provides for present and future worship, and the ways in which we have honored the past, and, most importantly, how we have improved the safety of all who attend our worship.
We are planning to invite all persons who contributed to making this project happen, and express our appreciation to various individuals who made this such a success! Please join us and invite your friends to be a part of this happy and historic day in the life of the First United Methodist Church of Torrance.
