Dear Friends,
With the year 2009 behind us and the year 2010 before us, it is time to focus on what is in front of us. For the next year, we will be focusing on retooling the committees, making disciples, and monitoring the renovation of our sanctuary. All of this requires a lot of resources of time, energy, and money.
Romy P. has requested that his message of stewardship be published and I think it is a good reminder. So here it is.
It is our Christian responsibility to give in support of God’s Kingdom. In the Old Testament, 10% giving is a sacred law for the follower of God. In Genesis 28:22, Jacob made a vow to give a tenth to God for all that he receives. It was Jacob’s response to God. In Leviticus 27:30, all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or the ‘fruit of the tree belongs to the Lord. It is holy to the Lord.
In the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 16:2, Apostle Paul gave an order to the churches of Galatia to set aside each week as God hath prospered them. Ten percent is what God wants of our income.
Jesus said, “We will receive as we give.” In Luke 6:38, “give and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom for with the same measure that you use it, it will be measured back to you.”
The famous verse in tithing is Malachi 3:10. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be food in my house and try me now in this, ‘Say to the Lord of Host, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you much blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”
My wife and I have faithfully obeyed this God commandment for more than 20 years. Our tithing to God is our way to honor him. This year we moved up beyond tithing and we step up. I ask you, please make your move. Thank You. Amen. — Romy and Francie P.
I hope and pray that we step up in our giving in 2010 in light of our ambitious plans for God.
