Greetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
The journey from ashes to lilies is almost upon us. Ash Wednesday is March 1 this year and Easter Sunday is April 16. Between those two days we are challenged in our faith and in our life to make sacrifices and become more disciplined in an effort to grow closer to God and to fully realize the impact of the cross and empty tomb in our life.
On Wednesday, March 1, we will gather with several other local United Methodist Churches for our annual Ash Wednesday service. The service will be at Faith UMC in Torrance at 7:30pm and will feature a joint choir from all the churches.
On Sunday mornings in Lent we will follow Christ’s path as we look at the stories of calling, healing, miracles, teaching and crucifixion. “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus” will be a time of learning, celebration and remembrance for us all.
This year we are trying something new!! We will offer “Fridays @ First” which will include a simple soup and salad supper from 6:30 to 7:00pm, followed by study opportunities for all ages from 7:00 to 8:00pm. This is a chance to gather as a church family for food, fellowship and discipleship as we look at Jesus as the leader of a rebellion in his time and our role as rebels today with a mission to love God and to love our neighbor. Volunteers are needed to help provide the soup and salad each week, look for a sign-up sheet in the church lobby.
